Produktbeschreibung

Thompson erklärt, “Some of the characters are real (there’s a song about Dylan Voller, as well as a historical narrative about West Australian Indigenous leader, Yagan), while some are fictional (‘Avondale Heights To Sunshine’ deals with a suburban dad trying to leave the neighbourhood and it’s traps that he was born into).

The Austrailian singer/songwriter Carus Thompson flew to England to record his seventh studio album together with producer and multi-instrumentalist Sean Lakeman. Kathryn Roberst sang along while Seth Lakeman played the violin, viola and electric tenorguitar. I’ve had a weak spot for Seth Lakeman ever since I saw him perform at Folkwoods a few years ago before getting into a conversation with him – according to me, you rarely come across a nicer and more modest folk hero. So if he’s playing somewhere he immediately gets my attention, and this time that was especially justified, because Seth was additionally involved in writing the song ‘Land’s End’ – it was not him just playing along – there was clear commitment, and you could hear that.

Thompson’s songs are good, political and socially relevant; he does not avoid topics such as violence against women. The lyrics are sometimes passionate and heavy, but Thompson sings them calmly and steadily. As a result you do not immediately realise that he is singing about difficult topics in the first place. Maybe that is his strength, because if you start listening you do start to feel the lyrics, and that is what it is all about. A special album.
